Inspired by Kim’s coastal hometown of Nha Trang-Vietnam, the space plays with the essence of coastal village with this fresh palette perfect for the seaside suburb of Williamstown. The interior details reflected the nostalgic atmosphere of local Vietnam with a modern twist that infused with Melbourne’s restaurant culture.
•Brief: Modern take on a Vietnamese restaurant
•Constraints: Heritage building. Honouring its historical significance. We retained and worked the original blue stone floor and fireplace into the overall design. It gave it a new life.
•Opportunities: Tall ceiling height creates an opportunity to hang 200 hand-made Silk lanterns from Vietnam, we celebrate the craftsmanship of Vietnam and also brings a touch of cosiness and old-time authenticity to visitors
•Spatial Planning: Forms follow function. We have created an open layout that speaks to the long and narrow space where it is versatile and can evolved based on the client’s business need.
•Flexible Layout: An open plan layout to allow different dining configurations based on the customer’s and client’s need
•Uniquely Ms. Kim: Evocative spaces with a touch of Vietnam. Our vision is to encapsulate the brand through an interior that is unique and different. We understand that no two venues are the same – in fact, we like it that way
•History: We celebrated the historical significance of the existing site by highlighting the original feature rather than shying away from it.
•Experience: Created a space with nostalgic atmosphere of local Vietnam with a modern twist where the diners will remember and recognise.
•Efficiency: A layout that takes consideration of the smooth work flow between the kitchen, bar and show kitchen. Due to the current restaurant trend, we also allowed a space for food delivery pickups which will not obstruct the diners.
•Budget: Carefully thought design details throughout that give the maximum impact with tight budget in mind.
•Color can alter our perception and that is exactly what we took advantage of. To create an illusion, we have painted the wall and the ceiling with the same bright colors which enables your eyes to travel continuously around the space, making the room appear more spacious.
•With the same color, you don’t see boundaries and space seem to continue. Carefully curated contrasting accent colour from the furniture and bar give places for your eyes to linger as they explore the space and to guide your visual through the space with depth and dimensions.
•Imaginative spaces with the touch of Vietnam and yet a whimsical and energetic aesthetic; an overall experience infused with Melbourne’s restaurant culture. Our vision is to encapsulate the Ms. Kim’s brand through an interior that is unique and different. We understand that no two venues are the same – in fact, we like it that way
