- GM Australia Design
The GM Australia Design Centre, located in Fishermans Bend, Melbourne, was responsible for designing and fabricating the Buick flagship concept car named the ‘Avenir’. A team of 50plus Australian designers worked together on the Buick Avenir from start to finish; beginning with CAD drawings and then going on to refine the initial design using clay modelling techniques. The ‘Avenir’ was unveiled at the prestigious 2015 North American International Auto Show and received the EyesOn Design awards for ‘Best Concept Car’ and ‘Innovative Use of Color, Graphics or Materials’.
When General Motors North America asked the GM Australia Design Centre to create an iconic flagship concept car for the Buick brand, the model was never intended for mass production. The benefits of this design achievement have instead been realised in the international exposure GM Australia Design has delivered to Victoria and its wealth of design expertise. GM Australia Design punches well above its weight in terms of automotive design and is one of only two GM facilities worldwide that are capable of designing and fabricating a concept car from scratch.
