A Spot at the Bar

  • The Company You Keep
  • The Everleigh

Commissioned by The Everleigh, Melbourne, to create a publication that shed’s light on the ethos and history of the venue’s practice.

A guide far beyond how to mix drinks, cocktail recipes or the subtle cues of hosting. We were tasked with making the intangible tangible in over 200 pages.

Key Features

Bartender notes handwritten by owner Michael Madrusan and hosting details are woven throughout 300 recipes of the fond and forgotten classic cocktails.

With reference to a wealth of notable cocktail publications from the early 20th Century, the design honours the genre’s historical aesthetic reimagined for the contemporary setting.

This is underpinned in the composition of the softly coloured gestural illustration and focal typeface “Thermidor” – a revival based on 19th Century French type designer Charles Boudoir by Thomas Bizzarri & Alain Rodriguez.
