Lanes and Places – The Hidden Laneways of Melbourne

  • Qualia Creative

In an age of digital – the physical is cherished even more.
Melbourne is renowned for its laneways.
We wanted to produce a piece of communication that shared this with the public.

The books absence of written information was to allow an open communication; a visual meditation on the changing architecture, function and façade of Melbourne and its rich past. For this reason it is excellent for tourism (appealing to non English speaking people), plus with the rising value and interest in property from investors (local and overseas) this is a gorgeous and timely document of the city.

Key Features

Shifting stocks, clear foils, coloured stocks, embossing, coloured stitching and overprinting are some of the production techniques on display in this visual meditation of Melbourne’s lanes and places. The book was produced using K.W.Doggetts Fine Paper (Strathmore range); a specialty FSC stock that comes in an array of weights and finishes and was used here to showcase just how beautiful printed documentation can be. The juxtaposition of the high-end production with the low-end content gave the book a heightened sense of beauty achieved largely through the considered designed production. The book is easily available from the studio; visit
