One of the most significant challenges facing providers of social housing is the maintenance of existing, ageing housing stock. Increasing the life span of existing buildings is inherently more sustainable than building new ones. The Hi-Pod project addresses this issue in an existing high-rise, public housing tower; extending the floor area and dramatically improving the thermal efficiency of a third storey unit while allowing tenants in neighbouring units to remain in occupation during construction.
