Basket Ball Backing Board – City of Melbourne

  • City of Melbourne

Complaints had been made from residents about the level of noise created by activity from the sports courts in Docklands. Noise levels were taken, and the impact of ball onto backboard came up as the highest reading. So the brief was to come up with a solution to decrease the volume.

Key Features

The backboard that was designed Is a one-piece waterjet-cut aluminium plate, designed to decrease the physical surface area the ball can contact, as well being rigid enough to not require a frame. It was designed to be retro-fit onto the existing standard poles and rings that were already installed. The backing board has been designed as a simple graphic. The translucent nature of the backing board allows view through the board of the surrounding area.
