Entrants must demonstrate that the design is a successful and innovative commercial scale project or a highly innovative public and smaller scale project where design has increased the building’s functionality and thereby led to improvements to the client’s performance. This may be shown through indicators such as reduced operating building costs (possibly achieved through use of different materials that contribute to operating efficiencies), increased employee well-being which has reduced staffing costs and potentially increased productivity levels. The principles developed and applied in the design should have significant potential to be applied in other settings.

Includes Corporate Branding, Commercial Art, Graphic Design, Wayfinding and Exhibition Design.

This category focuses on the design, development, preparation and organisation of images and information for publication with particular emphasis on clarity of the message being conveyed and the matching of information styles to audience requirements.

Entrants must demonstrate how the design has enabled the client to effectively differentiate their product or service to increase market share and financial sustainability.  Entrants may also demonstrate how the design has contributed to improved environmental and social outcomes, which could impact on the client’s business outcomes.

Includes all areas of Fashion Design, Clothing and Textile Design, Costume Design, Accessories etc.

This category focuses on the process of creating fashion, textiles and accessories for commercial production. Entrants must demonstrate how they have used a considered design process to create innovative solutions and outcomes for this sector. Entrants may also demonstrate how the design has contributed to improved environmental and social outcomes, which could impact on the client’s business outcomes.

Service Design

Includes Service and Systems Design and other multidisciplinary design approaches tailored to meet the needs of a project.

This category focuses on the planning and organising of people, infrastructure, communication and material components of a service or system.

The design should improve the user’s experience and enhance the interaction between the service provider and its customers to improve business outcomes.

Entrants must demonstrate that the design (or redesign) of a service or system, or the way a service is delivered, has led to increased market share and financial sustainability for the client. Entrants may also demonstrate how the design has contributed to improved environmental and social outcomes, which could impact on the client’s business outcomes.

This category has been created to recognise the next generation of designers and entrepreneurs in Victoria. Entry is open to students of design across all design disciplines represented in the Premier’s Design Awards. Students must be studying at a recognised educational institution in Victoria to be eligible for entry.

Industrial and Product Design

Includes Industrial Design, Consumer Product Design, Furniture Design, Software-Electronics Design, Engineering Design, Medical Device Design and Automotive Design.

This category focuses on the process of creating or enhancing a concept and subsequently developing it into a commercial product for manufacture and sale.

Entrants must demonstrate that the design (or redesign) of a product for the market, or equipment used by a firm, has led to increased market share and financial sustainability. Entrants may also demonstrate how the design has contributed to improved environmental and social outcomes, which could impact on the client’s business outcomes.
